Key and Peele

Key and Peele is fantastic.  Both Portlandia and Key and Peele are more consistently funny than SNL is or MadTV was. It may be a “cooks in the kitchen thing,” where you get more quality sketches out of a comedy duo (Fry and Laurie, Armisen and Brownstein, Key and Peele) because of the closer rapport. Idk, just a guess.

Show description:

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are the stars of “Key & Peele,” an original new sketch-comedy show that examines life in a provocative and irreverent way, through a combination of filmed sketches and live stage segments. Whether it’s satirizing the President, spoofing Nazis, or ordering up some soul food, Key & Peele showcases their chemistry, camaraderie and unique point of view, born from their shared background and experiences growing up biracial in a not quite post-racial world.

Anyway, Key and Peele, both former MadTV cast members, are great.  You can watch full-length episodes on Hulu Plus, clips on Hulu, and clips on Comedy Central. And of course there’s the Comedy Central channel on youtube.

Here are some of my favorite sketches. IT WAS TOO HARD TO CHOSE SO I JUST KEPT ADDING MORE AND MORE:

The show airs Tuesdays at 10:30/9:30 c on Comedy Central and it has already been renewed for a second season that will air in the fall.

Donald Glover

Who wouldn’t be jealous of Donald Glover? He’s on a hit tv show, Community.  He is a former writer for 30 Rock. He had a one-hour special on Comedy Central. He is a rapper (goes by the name Childish Gambino. AND he was on WTF with Marc Maron.

He is also pretty cute 🙂

It’s hard to make a joke involving domestic violence, but if there ever was a successful one, here it is:

His Comedy Central Special:

Sleepwalk With Me

As a huge fan of This American Life, I’ve heard comic Mike Birbiglia detail crazy and embarrassing stories as a guest star.  I also have his book, Sleepwalk With Me: and Other Painfully True Stories (which began as an off-Broadway show). He remembers in excruciating detail those childhood events that most of us would like to forget.  His delivery pairs fantastic timing with hilarious perspective.

Birbiglia’s storytelling on TAL has paid off.  Sleepwalk With Me is now a film that went to the Sundance Film Festival.

From Entertainment Weekly:

Sleepwalk With Me was produced by Ira Glass and based on writer-director-star Mike Birbiglia’s harrowing tale of life as a not-so-good, but-getting-better comedian. The film has been a bright spot in a Sundance lineup already brimming with comedies.

Apparently in the film, Birbiglia goes by “Matt Pandamiglio,” an equally unusual name. Here’s a preview:

Ira Glass on producing the movie.  So funny.  An honest portrayal of hard work that goes into a film.
