Off the List 16

Summer is cooling off a little. We have had a few days where I could actually stand to be outside!

What an intense wedding. I kind of want to loop the chorus and just sing it over and over.

Makes me want to roller skate in a poodle skirt.

The background sounds are hypnotic, in a good way.

Fantastic song, so many good lines.  Heard it on Sons of Anarchy, poor Opie!

Off the List 15

I feel like music comes in cycles.  New stuff is hits the airwaves, it starts to get played occasionally, OMG people love it, it reaches peak popularity, and then its beaten to death like a INSERT WITTICISM HERE.

I think we are in phase one of that cycle because I have been hearing a lot of new music recently!

These guys are so cool, I would have guessed they were Australian.

“I will not pretend I’m to good for this song.  I will not pretend I’m too good for this song.” -My new mantra

Love this song! Plus the word “wallowing” needs to make a comeback.

“Without joy, joy, joy, and the rain” Love this line.

Some new tunes for new times!

Bonnie Raitt was recently interviewed on World Cafe to promote her new cd Slipstream.

Good for the gym; it was free on tunes a few weeks ago.

And now, here are the forays of famous people into music videos.

Actually, I like both of these songs.

Shia LaBeouf is naked and the girl is topless, but, also, there is music.

Daniel Radcliffe is clothed, drunk, and alone, but, also, there is music.

David Guetta Samples RENT? Police?

Titanium by David Guetta featuring Sia has 57,470,870 views on youtube right now.  Holy moly, that is insane.  I love the song and music video and I’m happy to report that they are starting to play it on the radio (at least, just starting in America).

I think Sia deserves a little more credit than “featuring,” but whatevs.  On wikipedia it said that Katy Perry was offered the song first, but she turned it down (um, why?), and then Mary J Blige recorded a demo version that leaked. I like Mary J Blige, but I think Sia sounds better for this song. On the other hand, I can understand the words better in Mary J’s version.

Today when I was listening to the song, the intro really reminded me of something. All of a sudden, it hit me. RENT. Any rentheads out there? The guitar at the beginning sounds similar (imho) to One Song Glory.

Wikipedia referenced a review of the song comparing the opening guitar to Every Breath I Take by The Police. Good point!

I think every single version of this song has at least one comment calling it the “facebook anthem.”

So, I am asking the universe for a mash up of these songs.  Actually, on second thought, that might turn out to be a hot mess.  Either way, I will def be listening to some more Sia, with or without David Guetta.

Rihanna Samples Johnny Cash?

I’m not clearly not the first (or only) person to notice this.  Click on the image above to read The Twist’s take on Where Have You Been.

Rihanna’s new single Where Have You Been has hit the airwaves. It sounds like she has gotten inspiration from Johnny Cash:

Reminds me of Lady Gaga and Ace of Base:
